چکیده

This paper investigates range-only tracking with range-Doppler coupling, where the range measurement of a target of interest is linearly biased by its range-rate (or Doppler). In previous treatments the situation was monostatic, and a simple Riccati analysis sufficed, but here the system is multistatic (notionally, a MIMO radar). Here, the closed form of posterior Cramér-Rao bound (PCRB) is derived for a multistatic system in the tracking of a kinematic target. As the coupling parameter λ can be zero, positive, or negative, a question arises: which kind of λ could result in a lower PCRB for a given system configuration? With the help of numerical analysis, we see that a positive λ may lead to the lowest PCRB, while a negative λ may result in the highest among these three possibilities.

Performance Analysis for Joint Target Parameter Estimation in UMTS-Based Passive Multistatic Radar with Antenna Arrays Using Modified Cramér-Rao Lower Bounds

In this study, the modified Cramér-Rao lower bounds (MCRLBs) on the joint estimation of target position and velocity is investigated for a universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS)-based passive multistatic radar system with antenna arrays. First, we analyze the log-likelihood redfunction of the received signal for a complex Gaussian extended target. Then, due to the non-deterministic tr...

Analytical Performance Bounds for Full and Reduced-order Distributed Bayesian Estimation

Motivated by the resource management problem in nonlinear multi-sensor tracking networks, the paper derives online, distributed estimation algorithms for computing the posterior Cramér-Rao lower bound (PCRLB) for full-order and reduced-order distributed Bayesian estimators without requiring a fusion centre and with nodal communications limited to local neighborhoods. For both cases, Riccati-typ...

Cramér-Rao Bounds for Non-Linear Filtering with Measurement Origin Uncertainty

– We are concerned with the problem of tracking a single target using multiple sensors. At each stage the measurement number is uncertain and measurements can either be target generated or false alarms. The CramérRao bound gives a lower bound on the performance of any unbiased estimator of the target state. In this paper we build on earlier research concerned with calculating Posterior Cramér-R...

Cramér-Rao bounds and estimation algorithms for delay/Doppler and conventional altimetry

Delay/Doppler radar altimetry has been receiving an increasing interest, especially since the launch of the first altimeter in 2010. It aims at reducing the measurement noise and increasing the along-track resolution in comparison with conventional pulse limited altimetry. A semi-analytical model was recently introduced for this new generation of delay/Doppler altimeters. The first contribution...
